Robe nationale pour Miss Universe 2010

6 August 2010 127 Comments

A regular reader of yashvinblogs.com just asked me to have a look at the dress which will be worn by our Miss Mauritius during the Miss Universe 2010 contest on the 23rd August in Las Vegas.

Good luck to our representative!

    LOL @the dress. .

  • lina

    No wonder with such outfits, Mauritius is never among the finalists!
    The last dress was a joke as well … remember guys it looked as if Mother Earth was going to do the catwalk ? I described it as “robe fleurie” but some friends innocently told me “robe gaumon la – robe feiyaz la?” ummm but yes they are right that’s what it looked like !

    The idea the designers keep in mind when manufacturing these dresses is the colour of Mauritius or something relating to the flag of our dear country. Common …. do our political delegates wear red coat, blue shirt, yellow tie and green pants when they go on international conventions ?

    When a foreigner will tell me that it is the first time he is meeting a mauritian, I’ll surely tell him “look at the beauty contest, the candidate wearing the dress which looks like a bad joke to you will be the next mauritian you will see and will surely remember more than me !”

    The question is; does Mauritius really lack fashion designers ?

    Oh my God!!!!????

    Even the journalists who have been to the last Miss Universe contest did not like our “gaumon” dress.

    One journalist from Ireland said: “Pauvre Miss Mauritius, c’est comme si on l’avait trempée dans de la colle avant de la traîner dans la jungle.” I admit that “qu’on aurait pas mieux trouvé” to describe the stuff.

    The person responsible of our Miss Mauritius contest defended the local creation and confirmed that the outfit will be exposed in a museum in Bahamas.

    Normal jo … bisin mete dan mizé meme sa !

    @lina:

    “Normal jo … bisin mete dan mizé meme sa ! ”

    lol!!! mega lol!!!

    am sure like SANSAN said even she could have done better! Why did they not organise a design contest? they’d get far better models for cheaper…

    bref!!!

  • http://blebon.com/blog Bruno

    Mais mais mais …. c’est horrrrible!

  • naz

    don sa n sapo la paille, n bra, n jupe e 2 bout la toile par derier enplas paye cher pu confectionne n tel rob… bref, c’est un desastre monumental..lol

  • Torpedo

    “Good luck to our representative!”

    What can we say more? As a patriot, we can only wish her the very best and that she enjoys every minute of her participation in that prestigious contest…

  • Fee

    Hey, this dress is ugly for a Miss!!!! Damn it, seems like therez no designer in mauritius!!!!
    (u wanted comments :p)

  • Priya Napaul

    Shit! To be honest,as a Mauritian I like the imagination of the designer as we need to encourage her but presenting such dress for a competition, its a bit cheap. Last time it was a green dress? “Garden”, “Wood” and God knows the other reaction about the last dress. Now its this? Oh my God….Please save Mauritius from Bad Comments! AMEN

  • lina

    Don’t agree with you Mike… if it were hotel curtains it would have looked much better. Dans rido lotel meme ena ene zafer ki appel “black out” c’est ene doublure ki empeche la lumiere rentrer. sa creation la laisse trouve tout a travers !

    In my opinion Laddoo found the right words “a poor girl wrapped in plastic bag”. Hopefully bane ecologists las vegas pas kidnap nu “local sandwich”.

    I am a close friend of one of the ex Miss Mauritius now established in Australia … she says that they sign a contract and they have to do and wear whatever is asked to them by the contest committee. Of course they get a monthly salary and some other benefits as long as they have the crown.

    Enfin en echange de kelke roupies, couma Torpedo p dire, zot p ale l’abatoir !

  • vaiizard

    Enfin maurice pa ti pou ena chance meme pou fer li remarke vu ki miss mru la meme pas xtra…Donc seul facon pou fer li remarke c fer vilain. Enfin bien souvent c vilain ki lamode Pfft

  • http://shine-rockstar.blogspot.com Sandeep Doorgah

    @ReenaDKL: certainly if i was in her place, i would rather swim buck naked across the Ganges river with a paper cut on my nipple than wearing such dress xD
    luckily i won’t have to do it ^^’

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    TYPE Dalysha Doorga on Facebook and in the photos section you will see the faces of the 2 women who “designed” (rather abused the word) dress…pfff!!!

    By d way, maybe Mauritius might actually win some awards:

    Most ugly costume (they had to invent this award especially for that dress)

    Funniest costume

    Dress that will feature in the next Zombie/Horror movie…actually the dress will be the vilain..it will freak anyone!

    Primerose should be banned from Mauritius. Send her to some far away desert island!!! she’ll dress monkeys out there!

    She destroys the image of the country by sending horrors like this (may it be the girls or the dress…) to represent Mauritius…

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @Yashvin:

    actually they kind of sign a contract..guess they don’t have much choice, but as a Miss and going to represent Mauritius, she should have said something…so what if they don’t agree??? you have to wear that horror!!!

  • http://shine-rockstar.blogspot.com Sandeep Doorgah

  • jon92

    hello everyone!!!
    first of all i must say that i respect the opinion of everyone and that’s really nice that one can express oneself here.
    then, i think it’s quite misleading to say what dalysha is wearing above is a dress!!!!that’s not a dress!!! it’s the NATIONAL COSTUME!!!
    then, in the miss universe pageant,points are not attributed to contestants according to their national costumes or their dresses!!!
    the national costume is not supposed to be a fashionable thing but it should represent the country in some way!!!have you ever seen the national costumes of the other countries???

    nevertheless, the miss mauritius organisation is indeed not a perfect one and there is so much room for improvement.everyone is saying so many great things and what they would have done instead.but are you ready to take the responsibility to organise miss mauritius and do you really know something about beauty pageants???our country’s population is quite small and it is normal that the probability of us winning is smaller and to be a beauty queen does not require beautiful physical attraits!!!

    last year, before that the irish journalist comment on the mauritian costume, did any of you say anything about the costume???

    finally,it’s rather unfortunate that the evening gown of dalysha resembles a wedding dress.ok,thank u for reading my comment!!!
    well,now,i’m waiting impatiently for your comments…

  • nish

    it’s hardly a dress!!!

  • jon92

    @nish: exactly,that’s not a dress!!!it’s a national costume as i’ve said in the comment preceding yours!!!

  • http://www.tushal.net Tushal

    @jon92—> National costume?More like a clown’s dress!
    My two cents worth opinion.

    @Arrmann–> +1

  • http://www.tushal.net Tushal

    P:S I just went on the facebook page for the pictures and saw the “dalysha’s evening gowns, swimsuit and costume” album. Seems like a website for you know. . those sex websites. .

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92:
    Hi!
    Just wan’t to clear a tiny misunderstanding.
    Nish’s comment was approved at the same time as yours. So, there was no way she could see your comment before leaving hers.
    btw, thanks for participating in the post :-)

    My guess why none of us did comment about the previous costume : Perhaps Mauritians were not really interested until foreigners did actually dare to criticize the costume.
    And as you can notice, immediately after the presentation of the costume this year, I was asked to write on this so that Mauritians can discuss about it before others do…

    Since you mentioned the costumes of other countries, here’s the link to some of them : http://missosology.org/mu10/2010/07/21/miss-u-is-colorful-because-of-national-costumes/
    Sharing it here so that other readers can compare :-)

    Finally, I will quote you :
    finally,it’s rather unfortunate that the evening gown of dalysha resembles a wedding dress.

    Yeah, it is unfortunate that a Mauritian is saying this, what will the world say about it?

  • zaheer

    @jon92, we cant just design a national constume any day! it should represent our cultures and tradition! being in the Designing field myself, i just cant interprete any of our Mauritian values in that, trying to represent multi-cultural society, doesnt mean we have to keep adding elements or colors to a particular design, that’s just too literal!
    i wonder if they actually took time to study our culture!! even if we hav numerous cultures in our island, we do stand as one with our own identity and traditions, and where is that in the dress? i cant see it. is it anchored too deeply inside its concept?? that i cant say…

  • http://www.natarajahmanick.com Natarajah Manick

    @Jon92

    I get what you mean and I respect your opinion.

    Talking about the other countries… We have nothing to do with them. Even if I compare, especially to the winning countries, our dress is barely comparable and hardly in a good way.

    I know the judges there are professional but how objective can they be to not let themselves be disturbed by such? (practically no one notices the beauty of a girl all covered up with jewelry, it’s the same for the dress)

    Now, I’m no fashion designer nor a collaborator of the Miss Mauritius but I do have a certain creativity and overall judgement.

    Finally, in what ways does this dress represent Mauritius?

    Sorry, it’s just big money stupidly spent on useless creativity. There’s a lack of strategy, creative communication and coherence. And unfortunately, these opportunities are always far away from Mauritians. Big design schools and popular degrees for nothing.

  • http://shine-rockstar.blogspot.com Sandeep Doorgah

    @Yashvin: mo pa p croir mo p dir sa la.. mai..mo penser si photograh la ti pou servi lightning equipments (umbrellas), shooting enclosures, dalysha so costume ‘peu etre’ ti pou mieu represenT lor ban foto?
    coz mone chek to link pou ban lezot model la.. et zot foto… quite impressive…

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: well,sincerely, i don’t know what the world will say about it!!!i said it is unfortunate because the white dress made by Ashiana is not usually the type of evening gown weared by the contestants.but we’ll see!!!

    well that’s better to post this link!!!the other readers will get to know a little about national costume but this link does not unfortunately show all the national costumes for this year!!!
    very good for you and your blog to publish the “robe pour miss universe 2010″!!!but it’s incorrect to call the national costume as such, giving the impression that dalysha will wear this for the evening gown competition!!!

    i think that people’s minds have a bit been influenced by the irish journalists comments.knowing that the organisation has not a good image in the country, this has worsened things more!!!

  • jon92

    @zaheer: you really have great ideas but the costume is not bound to represent the country’s culture or tradition.i’ve said that it represents the country in any sort of way!!i would have liked to see a real mauritian culture but mauritian society is so complex for me.we claim that we live in multi cultural society without any conflict of cultures but i think it would be wrong to say that it’s totally true.i really appreciate that you consider all mauritian people as one!
    p.s:have u read what this costume is supposed to represent?

  • jon92

    @Natarajah Manick: you should read what it’s written next to the photo above.
    to see other countries’ costumes can give us an idea how surprising each one is more than the other!!!
    i think that creativity is part of what humans are for.
    the beauty is not the only criteria to win the miss universe pageant!to be frank,i don’t know the pageant perfectly well because last year 6 of the top15 were handpicked by donald trump while it is supposed to be the judges’ responsibility to select the top15

  • zaheer

    I’d say we are one, and we DO have a culture, being from various parts of the world with different ancestral backgrounds doesnt mean we should be treated as such. all those could be combined into simple ideologies and conceptualised. am nt against what they tried to accomplish here, its good in a way! but here, what we can see is just an unacceptable literal interpretation…

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92:
    I don’t think that the issue comes on “when” it will be worn but rather “why and how” this was designed for an international contest.

    Using the designer’s word (Sophie Bax) :
    La robe nationale est un hommage à l’océan Indien et au drapeau mauricien à travers le bleu et le vert.“, but where the damn are the red and yellow of our national flag?

    btw, I have the impression that you are very well informed about this competition, judges and fashion etc. Is this right? In that case, thanks very much for sharing your knowledge with us. Really appreciate this.

    @Sandeep Doorgah: Well, mo penser c pas ene photo shoot officiel, juste ene presentation des ‘costumes’ aux medias.

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: that was a pleasure to reply your comment! well, the red and the yellow are on the hat!!!!the photo posted here does not reveal much about the hat but on facebook i think you can see it!

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92: wait, Those were not my words but those of the designer’s herself, as I quoted.

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: didn’t you write ‘but where the damn are the red and yellow of our national flag? ‘??????

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92 : Exactly, I did say that in regards to the words used by the designer. I can’t see where she compares the famous red and yellow in the ‘dress’ when she talks about our flag…. Or perhaps our flag contains only the blue and green? euh…

    Point to note : My blog post here includes the picture and text from orange.mu.
    So, we are basically discussing what has been quoted and shown by none other than the designer.

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: ah okay!!well you should go ask her!

  • TL

    Une journaliste irlandaise, Lorna Nolan, qui couvrait le concours, n’a semble-t-il pas apprécié – mais alors, pas du tout – le costume national d’Anaïs Veerapatren. Voilà ce qu’elle a écrit dans les colonnes du Herald : «Pauvre Miss Mauritius, c’est comme si on l’avait trempée dans de la colle avant de la traîner dans la jungle.» [http://www.lexpress.mu/story/352-decouvertes-miss-mauritius-2009.html]

    can it get worse? may be they are competing for the best museum dress!!!! ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha………………..

    @Natarajah Manick:
    abt the branding Mauritius subject, I always said that they could organise a national competition…they’d have put the price at Rs. Million (instead of 30millions something they paid..pfff!) and got a much more suitable logo for Mauritius..mais bon…maybe half the money went into the pocket of u know who :P

  • Avishna

    Mais li touni sa robe la – vulgaire, no style, cheap and not at all glorifying for a woman.

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @jon92:

    You said it right, national costume, not national garbage.

    Given all the sponsors Mrs Obeegadoo gets, yes I can myself organise a far better competition than that. I am confident that there are above 100 companies, institutions which can do a far better job.

  • http://yadhav.tumblr.com Yadhav

    Huh … Would have been better if she wore no clothes … Joking LOL! :P
    In reference to “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. :P

  • http://www.tushal.net Tushal

    @Yashvin–> If you look closely, there is red and yellow. well, a few cm to be honest on the hat. xD.Perhaps, the designer was referring to that.

    Oh, I still find the dress to be #EPIC #FAIL

  • jon92

    @ReenaDKL: hi!!you seem quite confident in yourself.good for you.so,go get the license!!!:) i would like to know what would you do instead and how would you improve the organisation.thanks

  • jon92

    @Avishna: hello!!!i would like to know how that national costume (which you think is a ‘robe) is ‘vulgaire, no style, cheap and not at all glorifying for a woman’? also, what is the purpose of that costume according to you?

  • jon92

    @TL: wow!!!what a discovery!!did you think the same thing before that this irish journalist publishes her opinion? her comment is actually quite funny and has certainly brought much attention on her article.well done Lorna Nolan!!!everyone has a unique opinion and it is pitiful to have one’s opinion biased just because of the comment of a journalist who is not even a judge in the competition!!!(i’m not targeting everyone)
    have u seen the national costume of miss ireland 2009? personally, i believe the mauritian one was better.

  • Yashnah

  • Yashnah

    @jon92: OMFG.. do u realiz wat u talkin about!!!b realistic man!!!
    u said..”the national costume is not supposed to be a fashionable thing” did u review ur coment!!! its not supozd 2 b fash!!! u so rong.. zen i can go wid my pyjama n put.. red, blue, yellow, green in it.. WOW I GOT MY NATIONAL COSTUME!!! ITS NOT FASHIONABLE ..oopz ITS NOT SUPOZED 2 B FASHIONABLE.. i’l ask u smfin!!
    describe me MAURITIUS in zis ‘dress’ ( if i can cal it so..lol xD)
    plz thnx^^

  • jon92

    @Yashnah: hi!!!many other countries have traditional dresses as their national costumes.although these are not fashionable, they represent the culture of the country!!nevertheless a national costume does not restrict itself to a traditional dress.i accept the fact that the costume does not agree with everyone’s taste and i respect totally your opinion.i would also make it clear that i’m not saying that this national costume is perfect.but then,maybe you can surely make a better one.
    in fact,in 2007 miss italy had a piece of cloth coloured green,white and red,the colours of the italian flag, as her national costume.
    i think i’m not the one to describe the dress.there’s already a description next to the photo above.
    thanks

  • jon92

    @ReenaDKL: if you do,i sincerely hope that you’ll do a better job and make mauritius win the miss universe crown!!!good luck!!! :)

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    Definition from wikipedia :
    National costume (also: regional costume, folk costume or traditional garments) expresses an identity through costume which usually relates to a geographic area or a period of time in history, but can also indicate social, marital and/or religious status. Such costumes often come in two forms: one for everyday occasions, the other for festivals and formal wear.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_costume

    Bisin azoute morice dans sa la liste la, et met sa “costume” la so foto akoter, with the same text to explain from where it originated.

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: lol!you have a good humour and are very funny!!!personally, i don’t think this wikipedia definition or whatsoever is in the context of what the national costume is for miss universe!!!if i’m not too curious,i would like to know if you were to create the national costume, what would have it been?

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @jon92:

    :) THNX!!! lol!! actually all you have to do is be genuine and deal with transparency…honesty and not prefer X, Y or Z…because of their skin colour, ethnical group they belong to, religious or political views..

    There are beautiful girls with no brain…(am not judging, just stating worldknown truth…)

    There are ugly girls with beautiful brain…(am still not judging, just stating worldknown truth…)

    There are girls which are ugly without the beautiful brain…(am definately not judging, just stating worldknown truth…)

    AND THERE ARE Beautiful girls with beautiful brain :)

    This is where beauty with a purpose applies…

    @jon92: So, to answer your question :
    if you were to create the national costume, what would have it been?

    NO!
    You know why? because that’s not my job and I believe that everyone should do what they are good at and give opportunity to others to show what they are able to do.

    And would you create it if you were given the opportunity to do it?
    I am asking this since it seems that you are perhaps someone, directly/indirectly related to the topic we are talking about. Just a wild guess.

  • jon92

    @ReenaDKL: sure!!!i totally agree!!but with everyone criticizing the organisation and it having such a bad image, no wonder why the both beautiful and brainy girls do not participate!!!furthermore, dalysha is actually going to las vegas and here, i don’t see much support from mauritian people!!!if one does not have the support, how can you expect her to win?
    other countries have all their citizens really encouraging and supporting their contestants!!!for example, venezuela,usa or philipines.
    these countries have the culture of beauty pageants.in venezuela, there’s even a school for pageants and young girls at the age of 13 get plastic surgery!!i’m not saying that mauritians should do the same!but you can see why they win because their people are really encouraging and supporting their contestants!

  • Ratna

    Dalysha is herself capable of judging the dress… She is in textiles and designing..

    Alors bonne chance Dalysha..

    my opinion..if counts.. its just an amateur dress being projected.

  • Yashnah

    @jon92: oh..sry i can’t do a better one..lol xD..
    bt i can do several better zan zis one..
    i dnt understand y u comparing zis ‘dress’ 2 others..
    its our ‘national garbage’
    OoOOpz sry ‘costume’ see even am failing 2 recogniz it pft!!
    yep national costume..so 1stly it shud describe our country.. ou histry.. our culture..
    zis seems 2 b som sort of rags!! sry bt its true 4 me its like zis!!
    zis ‘dress’ mostly reveals Dalysha’s boobs, belly etc.. am not sayin its rong.. bt z designer cud hav reveald much more of our country’s histry..zan z miss mauritius history lol xD
    look.. “simple but beautiful” zats ril imprtan 4 anifin u do..
    bt zis 1 is not simple @ al.. wich means not beautiful @ al..
    its like a.. like we C “galimachia”
    awww.. i juz realiz wat z designer wantd 2 make refrnce 2.. haha!!

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: i’m not at all related to the organisation if you think so!!i was just guessing what all of you would have proposed else!!i thought that maybe you can definitely do something much better since you are all saying that the costume is a total disaster.
    similarly it’s not my job to do such creations and it’s not me who made a fuss about it.
    p.s: i’m sorry if i made you angry( you seem to be so)

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92: You got us wrong… Others might agree.
    We are not criticizing our Miss Mauritius! Not at all. That should be clear.

    The discussion is clearly about the dress or “national costume” as you call it…
    From your comment, you said : “no wonder why the both beautiful and brainy girls do not participate!!!”

    And yes, we are criticizing the organisation, and mostly the designer…
    Why? I think that you have already gone through what Mauritians here think about the “creativity” used here to represent Mauritius at an international level.

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92: Na, am not angry, don’t worry :-)

    Providing a platform for discussion is one of the aims of this blog, else I would have disabled the comments section ;)
    And once again, I really appreciate having you here, despite that on this post, most of us seem to disagree with you, but you are still standing firm on your beliefs, that is nice.

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @jon92:

    I already posted my opinion on my blog:

    http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2009/07/our-miss-ya-miss.html

    here we are discussing about the dress etc…

    also Ii can’t see myself supporting someone who does not deserve the crown..I saw her interview on tv the last time for a local prog…pffff!!! she has no class at all…she does not even know how to speak! I mean even sa ban “squatters” dubreuil la ine exprime zot mieux lor tv!!!

    No, sincerely, it takes guts to participate in such sham, but it does not mean she deserves my support.

    Please not that this is my personal views and opinion :) thnx.

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: maybe you are not criticizing our miss mauritius but i don’t feel that most of you have showed some support!!!hello!!don’t you realise that you have made this costume take all the attention and no one is caring about dalysha representing us at las vegas(except some). how can someone have confidence in oneself when all of her compatriots are saying that it is shameful that she is wearing this costume for the pageant.
    ReenaDKL even said that she does not have what it takes to be miss mauritius.
    see, we do not even believe in her capacities!!!
    so,congrats for not criticizing her then!!
    where is solidarity among mauritians and our support for dalysha?

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92: I think that you missed the last part in my article…
    The part where I said :
    “GOOD LUCK TO OUR REPRESENTATIVE”

    Time to go to bed, will be back tomorrow ;)
    Good niteeeeeeee!

  • jon92

    @ReenaDKL: oupss.sory for going out of subject!!i think we’ll find our future miss mauritius and next to be miss universe in dubreuil then!!!don’t let this opportunity go!!!

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: i was not talking about you!!!good night then!!!

  • Yashnah

    @jon92: we r suportin her zats y we r all saying zat maybe if she had sm more apropriate dress she cud hav had beter chances 2 go fru z best 1s!!

  • jon92

    @Yashnah: i really appreciate that you defend your opinion with much humour and a little bit of irony!! :)
    it is said that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder…
    you should really propose your ideas of the national costume to the organisation then.that would bring some fresh air and change!!i think this would be nice especially when u’ll be able to propose several ones.there will be a variety of choice and we’ll be able to choose!!!
    i would have like to see the costume as you do but unfortunately everyone sees things from a different angle.

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @jon92:

    Man, I simply can’t go along with the winner of an arranged competition. It would be same like a guy gets admission to a medical school through backing, bought his diplomas and I tell him “go ahead! i will support you…you can operate on me coz i believe you are the best surgeon!”

    c’mon, at least i say what i have on my heart. am not beautiful and would never have made even the top 1000 in any beauty contest, so simply dedicate myself to something at good at.

    By d way, one of the nice competition here in Mauritius is “Face of te Year” for it really captures the beauty in them…it’s all about the face…so no bla bla and bla…

  • jon92

    @Yashnah: good if it is so!!but i did not see a single form of encouragement or support in your comments or maybe i miss them.if so i’m sorry!!!but i’m not targeting you but it is a fact that a majority of you did not show any support, do you agree?

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @jon92:

    do you really read the whole comment or just a part of it???

    quote:
    “I saw her interview on tv the last time for a local prog…pffff!!! she has no class at all…she does not even know how to speak! I mean even sa ban “squatters” dubreuil la ine exprime zot mieux lor tv!!!”

    i said they expressed themselves better than her being simple squatters while she is THE MISS MAURITIUS and could not even speak like a lady to suit the title…

    My lil daughter is sleeping and i’d love to get some sleep too…i’ll reply to all your other commenst to follow tomorrow…dac?

  • jon92

    @ReenaDKL: does face of the year still exist?i think the criteria are really different!maybe the competition is arranged (i’ve no proofs to assert this) but i do not think it’s nice to prejudge someone. hope that you’ll find the miss universe winner soon then.however, it’s nice that you are sincere!!!
    pfff i’m rather tired of commenting in this blog.i’ve to type so much because everyone is against me :(
    i’m going to bed.bye and goodnight.

  • The Fargonator

    Mo rate sa post la. Interesting. Li pou perdi.

Shame!

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92: Morning jon92.
    That was a very nice debate.
    Thanks very much for expressing yourself for the first time on this blog.

    @Everyone :
    Nice Sunday to everyone ;)

  • amishi

    seriously…. its awful. no class,no style. simply looks like a bikini n pareo wid some kind of fabric joining them…
    but thats my opnion… mayb other ppl find it wow

  • http://www.tushal.net Tushal

    @jon92–> Did you by any chance design by “dress”?

    @Fadil–> Voila Fadil. :p. . +1

  • http://twitter.com/girish Girish

    Oceana? Sounds travesti.. lol

  • Arrmaan

    Lida Oreiley (enfin pa koner exact cuma ekrir so nom) confectionne linze pour Miss India, kan mem ena sipaki kantiT designer dan India…mais c 1 Mauricien ki zot in fin soizir…nu Mauricien…virer tourner contract la vin pour 1 sel dimoun…justement la kestion c cuma each year 1 sel dimoun gagne contract pou fer tou…I guess ena cours Fashion N design dan UoM…si mo pa tromP even IVTB offer sa ban cours la…alors plus ou moins ti cpav fer tou sa ban zeness la work ensam ek come wiv something better.

  • Arrmaan

    1 explication possib: C pa Miss World so costume…c Miss Universe…li ena pou fer competition ek ban Marsien ek extra-teresste osi :D

  • jon92

    @ReenaDKL: is there anything wrong with a squatter speaking better than a miss mauritius? is it because one is a squatter that one cannot express oneself in a right way?
    you should propose give lessons to the Miss about the way she has to speak then.i’m sure you’ll do a great job!!!

  • jon92

    @The Fargonator: wow!!!i think that you can become the Osmel Sousa of Mauritius!!!all of you have so many great ideas and propositions but have you submit them to the organisation?
    beauty expert, you should find the ‘zoli’ girls and send them to miss universe pageant. then, mauritius will be able to win the contest. youpi!!!

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: thank you!!!yes, i’m making your blog become even more interesting!!!

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @jon92:

    ayo papa!!! you are distorting my words…i mean to say that as Miss representing the WHOLE Mauritian in the world, she should at least be able to speak like one..a true lady..

    When i said the squatters spoke better than her it was more irony/humour than being mean…I in no way wanted to “denigrer” them :P

  • jon92

    @Tushal: if i’ve well understood your question, no it’s not me who have designed that dress!!and, if i’m not wrong, i think it’s mentioned above that it is sophie bax and valerie olivier who have made the national costume!’

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    ORDER! ORDER!

    Please stick to the subject, that is the ‘dress’ or national costume, whatever name it has.
    Thanks :-)

  • jon92

    @Yashvin: i’m sorry if i did so.i will once more request to you that you change the title of your article because it’s a misinformation. the word ‘dress’ makes everyone think that dalysha will be wearing the national costume as an evening gown, which is totally false.
    for example,Armaan is talking about Lida O’reilly making the dresses of miss india when we are supposed to talk about the national costume!!!in fact, lida o’reilly has not made any national costume but in this debate we’re talking about the national costume. so, i don’t see the linkage between an evening gown and a national costume.
    i hope you’ll do the necessary!!!

  • jon92

    @ReenaDKL: in this case, you should do your best to take the miss mauritius organisation in your hands so that everything would be perfect!go for it!!!
    one should be more careful about one’s sayings.

  • http://www.yashvinblogs.com Yashvin

    @jon92:
    “Robe” ou “robe nationale”, it still remains a “robe” isnt it?
    Again referring to the words of the designer, she mentioned “robe” without necessary adding the word “nationale” with it.
    But since you mentioned @Arrmaan‘s comment, I am sure that he has noted this point.
    Finally, I would like to add that Armaan wants to stress out on another point here : The choice of the designer.

    Usually, I don’t change my titles once published but I think I will make an exception for this time so that more emphasis is put on the national costume…
    Btw, I am going out right now and will approve comments a few hours later

  • http://www.natarajahmanick.com Natarajah Manick

    Dress or not, designer or not, creative or not, mauritian or not… The “thing” sucks!

    A national dress cannot be made by only two people, whom I still wonder if they are Mauritians to know our culture or highly-hired skins just to give some unusual names like “Dior, Bax, Chateau de France blabla” instead of having something like “proudly confectioned by our Mauritian students/designers”.

    I don’t have a problem with the designers but the people behind. For me it’s just big money wasted for nothing. Or maybe they are trying to tie some relations with “expats” but whatever. At least they could have considered asking people about the design before finalizing. So I still maintain that the dress… I mean the “thing” sucks!

  • Avishna

    @jon92
    @Avishna: hello!!!i would like to know how that national costume (which you think is a ‘robe) is ‘vulgaire, no style, cheap and not at all glorifying for a woman’? also, what is the purpose of that costume according to you?

    i dont want to tell you.you the only one who does not see ( or does not want to see)what i mean.

    National costume and robe??man whatever name u want to call it not worth for my dog to sit on.

  • Arrmaan

    Selmen national costume ou pa…selon moi…LI VILAIN per se (sans comparer a ban lezot pays)…p…ek a ce ki p paret enta dimoun p pense de mem, ek zot tout a fait ena droit fer li lakoz zot Mauricien…ek c pa la 1er fois…some years ago mo rapel ti ena 1 robe rose gato coco kasse lizier nette :D …ek en+ sipa combien dollar in spend lor sa, zat is public funds…ek sak fois c ban mem figir ki de l’avant…as if c z only people ki cpav fer la robe nationale…ou organise Miss Mauritius en son ensemble. She is a graduate in Fashion design.. Is there a comm team for Miss Mauritius??? if YES, where were they when she was on the 100% Fam programme on MBC.

    BTW – WOW u really deserve to be Miss Mauritius Dalysha.. All the best.

  • http://www.tushal.net Tushal

    I just seen the video that Yashvin shared on facebook. Holy MOLY. . That the worst dress I’ve ever seen. .

  • Mike

    This will go down in fashion history as “The Robe”, hey there was a film title like that…. Anyhow, someone save Dalysha, I hope she has an “opt out” clause?

  • jon92

    as i’ve said,i respect all your opinion and never have i said that i love or dislike the costume. i have just wanted to clear some things and express some of my opinion.i’ll also add that’s quite normal that the national costume makes so much controversy( examples australia and thailand this year, last year it was japan’s kimono which was seen as too much sexy or ,in 2008, miss australia,laura dundovic’s costume which was considered too much like a dress than a costume)

    @arrmaan: public funds???i really don’t understand!!!how does the public contribute to the miss mauritius’ finance? how come a private company get involved in wastage of public funds? the organising committe is not a parastatal body or any such thing!!!it’s the sponsors who are giving money so that mauritius is represented at the miss universe pageant (countries such as cayman islands did not have enough funding or sponsorship to participate…)

    @ReenaDKL: sorry but it’s not me who can give you the contract.you should go for it by yourself!!!( and if you do, well good luck)

    @yashvin(the author): i think that everyone’s opinion should be respected!!!so, if one has liked a photo on facebook, you should respect his opinion no matter what yours is!!!(Kouma moriciens cpv like sa foto la? :S). congrats to you for having been able to find a good way in making your blog even more spicy and sensational.finally, i do hope that you’ll keep your word about changing the title about the article!!!

    since i’m quite bored and tired of commenting on this blog ( for i’ve to repeat many things several times,it’s always difficult to go against the trend and many of you haven’t got their facts right)i’ll say goodbye to everyone for this is my last comment here.thank you and all the best to you all!

    @vaiizard: IMHO, you are a bid hard on our miss mauritius. In fact, most (if not all) of us here are commenting on the ‘dress’.

    But we do support our Miss Mauritius, nothing against her!
    Isn’t it dear friends?

  • http://reenadkl.blogspot.com/2010/07/lifes-funny-things.html ReenaDKL

    @Yashvin:

    ahum…ahum…

    i’ve got nothing against her…

    but there certainly is no transparency in this competition…most winners already know they will win..it’s simply not fair.

    Abt the dress, why not organise a yearly national competition???

  • Arrmaan
