Hello, ki position Nomad, Emtel, MTML, DCL?

Hello,Ki dir?

internetmru.jpg

More than 1 week already, “orange p vender partout”, but still, no response from the competitors, at least, nothing extraordinary in their business strategy from namely,

  • Nomad
  • Emtel
  • MTML
  • DCL

Except a small thing from Emtel, you can now epin ur mobile with only rs20, instead of rs25.

rabbit.jpg

r for rabbit modem

I tried to access Nomad‘s portal, but a big “Under Construction” Notice is there, dont know since when, lets hope its something really BIG for the few users still hanging out with their rabbit.c

dog.jpg

d for dcl…

DCL Communications seems dormant since, euh, a long time, very long indeed!

goat.jpg

goat for cabri l’inde…

As for MTML, its “Azu wireless broadband internet” is available since some weeks back but till now, there havent been any marketing done to attract potential customers, perhaps because they are not ready yet to handle many users and hence face the same problem which nomad faced with thousands(?) of ppl connected and the system breaking down day after day….really bad reputation they have here in Mauritius! lol

big_orange.jpg
o for zorange…

Internet, Mobile, everything is being controlled by Orange, offering several offers ( mobile packs etc etc ) + innovations (new portal, magic numbers, etc etc) since its launch.

Will they be able to compete with the big multinational company orange?

Sure, the mauritian blog community and myself will be here to keep you updated about the events in our cyber island ( lol, cyber! )

I went to telecom curpipe and the agent told me that their is no change in myt (1gb limit)

  • Yusuf

  • Kunal

    to Yashvin:

  • PG

    Hi all

any idea about the number of mtml customers for internet?

    EMTEL

  • ritzz

Dear sir/madam,(this is for the marketing manager of NOMAD), urgently pass this report to him/her.
I am an internet user. I want to discuss about Wipro.

Now, what happens is that you have not even let the information of new improved nomad to sink in around the Mauritian population that you are now trying to change the packages and making them capped.

Look, everyone in Mauritius is just annoyed because of MYt fair usage policy and wants unlimited limits with uncapped limits.

Nomad has this advantage over all its competitors. And unlimited access and data allowance as a package strategy is one of the sustainable competitive advantage that Nomad should be extremely happy with.

But what is Nomad doing? Increasing the choice of packages by capping limits! What’s this? You call it a marketing strategy!!

You should only have 6 packages for people to choose. The Mauritian population is not fully educated in IT, more specifically in Internet, in order to understand your new packages, that also with capped limits, the gamut of packages should be restricted.

Consumers want to be free with internet, surf, and not worry about how much they are downloading, that’s why Nomad is too good for them. We all like liberty. We say in national anthem “in peace, justice, and liberty”. So Nomad gives liberty to your potential and existing consumers. Don’t disappoint them.

    Give:
    1. Wipro 64 basic with 5 Gb limit price 350+vat
    2. Wipro 128 basic with 15 Gb limit price 475+vat
    3. Wipro 128 pro with 25 Gb limit price 550+vat
    4. Nomad 64 kbps Unlimited at 550+Vat
    5. Nomad 128 kpbs Unlimited at 850+vat
    6. Nomad 512 kpbs Unlimited at 1699+vat

Analyze the marketing impact of these packages and then tell me if consumers will not be chasing Nomad for an internet connection. Consumers will feel that they are not being controlled on internet and will find that Nomad is being fair with them unlike the cruelty of MYt, ADSL and the rising completive strategy of Emtel.

Nomad do take advantage on the mindset of Mauritians and go forward, but with the current strategy that you are proposing, you’ll certainly go to hell, and be cursed by internet users, whether they were existing Nomad internet users, potential consumers or the IT specialists in general.

So Nomad it’s high time to take account of the Mauritian mindset and do fair marketing to our cyber island. Don’t betray Mauritian people. Be fair.

  • gater

MTML calculates the total data downloaded and UPLOADED for its limit. Is this normal and is this true for other service providers?
I thought it was only the downloads and not for uploads…

  • Mike

DCL will soon be on the Mauritian market. A few more months and there should be an IP competitor with new offers. See the article in l’Express of 7 August 2008 no. 16605.
    http://www.lexpress.mu/archive_semaine/display_article.php?news_id=112745

  • @Mike: Dear Mike, in your place, i would not be waiting for DCL, some people (including me) might advise you so from past experience…

DCL came on the market with its internet scratch card Smartnet, damp cheap, compared to other internet cards, but damn connection too, value for money….
Some time after, its system became unstable, u could surf for unlimited time…
& then, it disappeared, no one heard about DCL Scratch cards anymore…

It innovated by coming with its ADSL.
No connectivity complaints you will perhaps say, but till now, i haven’t heard anyone someone saying “I have DCL’s ADSL Connection at my place”.

Well, lets hope that this time, they come with a better service, package and customer care service…
btw, u already have experienced with Nomad Customer Care, well, DCL Smartnet CC WAS even worst!

Perhaps someone with better experience can talk a bit here…

  • armand

tested emtel HSPDA on nokia n82, I got a top speed of 1216 kbps, thats fast

  • ritzz

Ooops, where the hell is DCL! They were announcing big big hi-tech wireless internet technologies in Mauritius. They are still in their testing phase or what. Eh pa facil sa. Si contiuer ale koumsa Maurice pou dans difer avek competition zero plonbase ki pe amener par emtel, Mtml et Nomad contre Orange. Nou guete ene koute ki pou arriver.

  • dragon

Just to share with you. I have been using mtml wireless for some time and it is worse than nomad….

Their 2.4 Mpbs speed is less than my 64kb nomad. (confirmed by many of my friends)
    customer service is worse
    technical assistance is almost nill
billing is full of mistakes and irregular

    Big promises, zero action…

  • Nomad user

    [re=21571]ritzz[/re]:

Nomad, mtml, orange, …. the list can be long, they merely exist to give us the illusion of choice when in fact we don`t have REAL alternatives. We are living in a dictatorship regime in Mauritius!!

  • sebo964

    yo all,

Nomad is out of range for me i live too far so i tried Emtel. the 1GB package.
just of you to know you dont have to buy there modem you can use your mobile phone, as long as it has GPRS you should be fine but 3G is recommended.

Download speed is good, the whole connection is worthwhile but the 1GB limit really sucks. for a user like me its like less than a week and am not even downloading anything. Just by surfing. IF you exceed the package prepare for shock when the bill comes.
i also noted that emtel sends its bill late or sometimes does not send them at all. But if you dont pay they will still cut your line.

if you are not a heavy user i recommend the emtel 1GB.

now i switched to ADSL home from orange and connection sucks at times but overall its ok although i think its too pricy for the 128k the price should be around 500, since myT users get twice to speed for the same price as adsl 128. I live too from the exchange for myT. still waiting for the prices to fall as the minister ‘whatever his name’ said there would be price cuts.

    Hi bloggers,

    Ritzz here.

Dudes, this part of so-called {management had to suspend 20 employees because of ñ€Ɠunfair competitionñ€Ɠ} is totally ridiculous!!

Unfair competition!? It is us as consumers of internet connections who are suffering from unfair competition! On what basis, has Nomad the right to suspend 20 employees.

Nomad, you were already being cursed and now you will be cursed to the limit. You do know that in an organisation, good feeling and good management practice reflect your output, BUT Nomad yours is only shit and nothing else and whether you are in a cost cutting campaign or being hit by so-called unfair competition, i bet you Nomad top level executives have their eyes right inside their asses not to really see:

    1) How bloggers of Mauritius view Nomad and the attitude towards Nomad

    2) What do Mauritian consumers of internet connection REALLY need

So, you so-called learned people at the top level management of Nomad, do not just open your eyes, But shift them from that dark place at the bottom to the top to at least start learning our needs and wants as a consumer for wireless internet connection.

Come here at the very popular and esteemed blog for Mauritius like http://www.yashvinblogs.com to learn a bit, you mentally retarded Nomad executives having sacking power! Ride out and meet the reality!

    Respect to other Mauritian bloggers!

  • Well i tried the following:
    1) emtel mobile service – Fcking great. no issues and lots of updates *thumbs up*. Emtel chat, ahhhh so nice to chat. Promotions, way to much cannot choose :P. Internet, heard of rs0.03/kb for browsing, Excellent rates, same as abroad.

    2) C+ A.K.A ZORANGE PURI – Nothing special. Nice coverage. rs0.1/kb for wap, Sorry but im not that rich. Call rates, no way. Overall, Make me wonder why it came here (mauritius). Also heard really damn things about their service and so tested them. Customer care, not even close to what it says (e.g had to call 21 times to get wap activated and had to call 5 times to enquire about a well known safeguard service which they did not have hell idea of (not even the technicians). Was told to go to telecom tower after several calls (including those hung up on my face). Tricked technicians there simply by messing with time/date of my mobile T_T. No way its a choice.. MAIS MO BANE GGT CAMARADES SERVI SA GGT ZORANGE LA ALRS KK FANER (better piss r zot ki servi zorange btw)

    3) MyT from zorange. No competition. rates are dictatorial. service is 56k like during peek hours (in afternoon). Wifi is COOL. Connection in morning is good. Pricing is TOO MUCH.. NOT VALUE FOR MONEY AT ALL, NOT EVEN CLOSE.. man MyT sucks and so does all other competitors.. but we cannot do without.. it’s ever MyT or Adsl or Nomad or 56k.. Choose T_T..

    4) Net Pc – What is that?? no idea.. BUT BEST INITIATIVE FOR POOR PEOPLE WHO CANNOT BUY A DECENT PC WITH INTERNET CONNECTION (even 56k).. nice idea at least :D.

IN ALL.. WE ARE SO FCKED UP GUYZ.. WE ARE BOUND TO PAY WHAT WE DONOT HAVE A DAMN SLOW INTERNET SERVICE.. BTW ADSL SUCKS TOO..

    hello to all.
Anything abt unlimited wap for EMtel at Rs100. Has anybody tried it?

@ MBS: While I agree with you that the govt should reduce taxes on telecommunication companies, but it’s worth noting that those companies pay corporate tax (@15%) just like any other company. The govt should reduce corporate tax on all companies to about let say between 3-5% to encourage growth. However the govt should tax the dividends distributed by those companies(to around 40-60%)and it should not be borne by the company itself but only by those who receive them as currently anybody who receives dividends, whatever the amount may be, pays Rs 0 as tax…
Last year the ‘independent’ subsidiary of MT, Cellplus, operating under brand name orange, made more than Rs1.1 billion as profits. It paid around Rs170 million as corporate tax and Rs 900 millions as dividends…A simple calculation shows you how much is left for improving the network…

@ atish: I have been using unlimited wap from emtel. Here are my observations when I tried it using my nokia N70…
    Connectivity
7am to 5.30pm: Speed quite good with some connection errors from time to time
5.30pm to 10pm: Speed greatly reduces (because of peak hours) and the connection resets very often (i.e. the page stops to load midway or the phone disconnects to the network)
10pm to 12am: Slight improvement in speed however connection is still unstable
12am to 6am: Great speed, good for surfing, almost no disconnection

    Speed using 3G network
Average speed is 20kBps during non-peak hours and 1-5kBps during peak hours. When I use a download accelerator I can achieve a max of 40kBps (384 kbps) i.e. the maximum speed that my phone can reach…

    Speed using GPRS/EDGE network only
Average speed is 1-5kBps during peak and non-peak hours even if use a download accelerator it rarely exceeds 10kBps (instead of around 25kBps i.e. 236 kbps for EDGE networks) This means they probably limit your bandwidth on these networks

    Ports open
Only three ports are open as far as I know:
    The default port for FTP
The default port for HTTP (port 80)
The default port for HTTPS (port 443)

All other ports are closed. This means that MSN messenger or any other messenger, youtube mobile and other video streaming website wont work…Alternatively you can sign in to MSN messenger from your phone browser but your friends wont be able to contact you unless you start to chat with them( This will open a new page on your browser and you will be able to chat with only one person at a time unless your phone browser supports multiple windows or tabs) If you dont have a mobile browser that have flash support, the only way to access youtube videos is to tether your phone to your computer and use your WAP connection to browse the desktop version of youtube website. You can use a download accelerator to download your video as the frequent disconnection will make your video stop midway.

    Conclusion
Emtel unlimited wap is good if you are a casual mobile internet user and if you own a 3G phone or it’s even better if you have a HSDPA phone… It is not recommended for someone who has a GPRS/EDGE/2G phone or needs a speedy connection at any time… Zis pou glaC avek sa :Pñ€© However since I subscribe for that, I have installed opera mini 4.2(best mobile browser I have known to date), Gmail client for mobile phones (supports UOM student mail too!!!! 😉 and google maps to max out my connection 😉

  • @Anonymous : Thanks for your review on unlimited wap!

  • Entan

    Hi,
can anyone provide the WAP + proxy server settings for Emtel for windows mobile?

    Thanks.

  • riot22

riot22 says that in network, orange is boss, in servies and internet speed and download emtel is boss but in communication and lowest tarrifs mtml is boss

as for internet, orange3g+ speed is fair compared to that of emtelwimax but emtel one ‘can’ compete with mtml.

make your choice nut do not use 3g+ orange.
