Policiers victime d’aggressions

Si azordi to ti eduqué, to pas ti pu conduire 1 taxi, van ou camion!

Parked cars damaged by a “chapiteau” in Champs de Mars

Update 26 April 2017 :

A police officer from Pope Henessy Police Station called me today to ask about the case. I informed him that I came to an agreement with the Port Louis Tennis Club with which I have been able to get the money back for the car repairs. I just came back from the Police Station whereby I had to sign the above statement to confirm that I do not wish to go forward with the case anymore. [Click here for Facebook post link]

Never assume that your car is safe, not even in a paid parking! I even wrote a post on those disclaimers some time back. If you follow me on Facebook, you already know part of the story. Some pictures below and if you want to read the full story, just continue reading to the full article.

Found drunk, Jordan Jeremy Lenon Philippe kills police motor officer with his 4×4

On Sunday, the country woke up with a shocking news: A police motor officer of 30yrs lost his life when a 4×4 vehicle, driven by Jordan Jeremy Lenon Philippe hit him in the region of Flic En Flac.

Update (24 August 2016) : The suspect in this case gets only a fine of Rs50,000. The court has rejected the appeal from the DPP who contested the punishment initially imposed to the suspect. More details at the end of this article.

accident

On Sunday, the country woke up with a shocking news: A police motor officer of 30yrs lost his life when a 4×4 vehicle, driven by Jordan Jeremy Lenon Philippe hit him in the region of Flic En Flac. The latter was trying to overtake another vehicle when he drove over the police officer as well as the official police motorcycle over several metres, as says the local media.

Aged of only 19years old, Jordan Jeremy Lenon Philippe was tested positively for alcohol at that moment. He was ‘admitted’ to a private hospital, Apollo Bramwell, after he felt ‘unwell’. So, he feels unwell after killing an innocent. The whole population must be furious at him at this time being!

IMHO, he should be jailed for the maximum period for his careless driving under the influence of alcohol and on top of that, killing a police officer on duty. The latter left behind him a young wife and a small kid.

You are free to take your own conclusions while waiting for the official reports and court judgement.

The BMW of Mont Choisy

On the same note, for those who missed the news, Didier Chabaut, the man who drove his BMW over the beach of Mont Choisy was fined for a total of Rs40,000 and his driving permit was suspended for two years. Read more here.
.

Update (26 December 2012)

For the first time ever, the media has published the photo of the said Jordan Jeremy Lenon Philippe.

Above is a screenshot made from l’express. It has also been mentioned that he left the Apollo Bramwell Hospital on Monday and was kept for security reasons in the Alcatraz prison. He will be brought to court today for the second time, the first time being on Sunday.

Update (24 August 2016)

The suspect in this case gets only a fine of Rs50,000. The court has rejected the appeal from the DPP who contested the punishment imposed to the suspect. The DPP thought that an imprisonment was more reasonable for such crimes but the judge are maintaining the fine because they said that the suspect was young and immature.

Personally, I find this judgement bullshit! A police officer lost his life because of a drunk driver and he gets away with a Rs50,000 fine? Why? He is too young and immature!

Hit and Run at Abercombie

Yesterday evening, I was involved in a hit and run accident while driving back home. A car of the brand Mazda 3 was dangerously overtaking a long queue of vehicles trapped in a traffic jam.

Yesterday evening, I was involved in a hit and run accident while driving back home. A car of the brand Mazda 3 was dangerously overtaking a long queue of vehicles trapped in a traffic jam when it tried to make its way into the lane while reaching my car. At the same time, another car was coming in the opposite direction. Both cars were hit and the traffic came to a halt.

The driver causing the accident looked similar to a thug, just like his front seat passenger. Wearing big heavy jewellery (neck chains and earings), they appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. At the back seat, a woman was seated and was even more excited than everyone else while I was trying to negociate the next step. They tried to handle a Rs1000 note to me, which I refused immediately and the public there got a free demonstration of their swearing presentation. I gave them the choice : Either “Constat à l’amiable” or we call the police. Meanwhile, I marked the position of the cars with my yellow chalk and I parked the vehicle on the sideroad.

Just at that moment, I waived for help to a police van on patrol. On noticing that action, the said accused car drove away at full speed. The police van immediately switched on its siren and chased the car down the streets. Together with the other driver, I went to the nearest police station (Abercombie) to report the accident.

The police vehicle returned back after some 15minutes. One of the police officers was bleeding from a large cut in his hand. While being held by a traffic jam, the two police officers surrendered the car and the driver drove into them. The younger police officer got hurt in the action and he was driven to the hospital where 10 points de souture (stitches) were needed.

Minutes after, first reports arrived. With the help of CCTV cameras, the car was located in a garage in Vallée Pitot. Police support was requested from Plaine Verte and 1 hour later, the car was seized. The driver was nowhere to be found while the owner denied any implications. The car was brought to the Abercombie Police Station later and a lawyer called to inform that the “driver” is coming to surrender himself.

Some time afterwards, a drugged guy presented himself as the driver. I denied him as being the driver as he was only in the passenger seat. The police gave him warnings and after consulting his lawyer, the guy went away. As per information gathered, the driver is a hawker, operating in mafia-like gangs. He was driving the car of his mother.

I left the police station shortly after 2030hrs. Nearly 4 hours were needed to get hold of the car, write the statements and identify the driver. Additionally, I did my first alcohol test, which of course, showed 0 in the indicator. (psst : Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take a picture while doing this, lol. I asked them) Reminder : I need to fetch my car later today, hopefully.

Congrats, I made myself new ennemies in this new episode of NFS Hot pursuit or Grand Theft Auto – San Andreas.

That road layout was made to kill.

Most of these accidents are mainly being caused because of the road design itself, being first of all a dangerous curve.

2 deaths, 5 people hurt. From radio broadcast, the brakes of the lorry failed on its way to the capital.

However, this is not the first accident there and probably it won’t be the last one unless the authorities take immediate action. But what action can they take? Large speed breakers? Speed camera detectors? 24/7 presence of police officers in that area?

Most of these accidents are mainly being caused because of the road design itself, being first of all a dangerous curve, the root of all the problems there. The most dangerous one in the whole road infrastructure of the island.

While I agree that some road users might be at fault too, but that road layout is simply BS. There’s nothing about security of road users. A motorway with a speed limit of 40km/hr! As per my figures (Nov 2011), 15 accidents have been recorded there.

Another fact, less than 1km away, authorities once brought the speed limit to 70km/hr. As a direct consequence, the traffic at that area was dense and caused lots of inconveniences. Only then, they realised that they needed to raise the speed limit.

Did they make any wild guess to put a 70km/hr speed limit there?

I do not know about your feelings, but I am disgusted with a feeling of revolt against the road authorities.  I am no road engineer but as a road user, I fear each time I go through that curve. There are so many factors that can cause accidents there. And they have been there since months and most probably for a few additional couple of months.

Update

Some people are claiming that this article is targetting all women drivers. I can’t see me writing this anywhere. So, I repeat it, this article is all about that woman who “drove” her car into the parked vehicle.

This said, the previous title “Vaux mieux ti laisse li cuit lakaaz” has been edited to
Sa madame chauffeur la ti bisin reste so lakaaz” so that people understand that this whole article is targeted at this woman specifically. So, to those who feel that this article was talking abt women drivers in general, you were wrong but nevertheless, please accept my apologies.

[Some] taxi drivers and their careless attitude

As a driver, I have always been surprised by taxi drivers, and I must say, pretty angry too. I will tell you why in a few seconds. But first, let me put this clear : Not all taxi drivers are like that.

More examples to quote? Express yourselves!

You won’t really find the post interesting in case you are not a driver or you are always seated in the back passengers’ seat.

As a driver, I have always been surprised by taxi drivers, and I must say, pretty angry too. I will tell you why in a few seconds. But first, let me put this clear : Not all taxi drivers are like that. I am writing this from my personal daily experience and I am sure that many among you might share the same point of view.

So here I go; SOME taxi drivers :

  • rarely put their hazard lights to show their intention
  • rarely show courtesy on roads
  • are always the first ones to horn at you
  • do not really care if you have priority
  • forget that there are rules and regulations.

[yashvinblogsfan]

Just to give you an example : Have a look at this old post, proving how a taxi driver takes the road to be his private property  :

And do you know where the worst taxi drivers operate?

In Flacq! wow, it is a complete mess there, horning, taxis everywhere, zigzagging, stopping anywhere to take a passenger…

The reason to explain their behavior might be an overconfidence of their driving skills. Their all day-night long exposure to the roads drives them to believe that they are the only users of the roads, the ones whom you can’t be compared too. But very often, they tend to forget that they are not the only one on the roads.
