NO PRICE CHANGE, again!

Wow! Been long time since I last posted on the price of petrol! That was back in March 2011! In fact, the Petroleum Pricing Committee previously met on the 27 December 2011 but since there wasn’t any price change (and I was a bit busy), so I did not really care to write about that.

The government has unexpectedly announced a temporary decrease in the price of petroleum products today. The new prices are as follows :

Essence : From Rs51.30/L to Rs49.30/L

Diesel : From Rs43.50/L to Rs41.20/L

Points to note :

  • This decrease has been made possible by reviewing the amount of Hedging Loss that Mauritians pay for each litre.
  • This the 2nd price update for the month of March 2011.

I was quite shocked by the speech of Pravind Jugnauth on MBC. He made a comparison with the UK, where the prices of petroleum products were decreased by 1penny, and he also stated that the population showed much satisfaction following the decrease of 1penny. This said, he added that Mauritians should notice the effort done by our government by applying this decrease, which is much more than that of UK.

How can he compare Mauritius to UK? We are totally in 2 different worlds and I find those people doing those comparisons really sick! There’s a different cost of living, salary and so on…

Lastly, did he forget that Mauritians are paying for the errors made by the ones taking the decisions in the board of the Automatic Pricing Mechanism? By decreasing the amount we pay, he is not doing any flavor to us! We don’t have the choice and we will be paying it afterwards!

Totally stupid speech from the ti-cretin! He missed out on a fine opportunity to keep his mouth shut!

The PPC (Petroleum Pricing Committee) has reviewed the prices of petroleum products which were previously updated on the 22th January 2011. The new prices are as follows :

Essence : Rs 51.30/L + Rs2.80 (previously Rs 48.50/L)
Diesel : Rs 43.50/L + Rs3.60 (previously Rs39.90/L)

As you have probably noticed in the above graph (Click to enlarge), the price of L’essence has crossed the Rs50/L bar for the first time ever in Mauritius while Diesel reached Rs51.20 on October 2008. You are on The Web Site which has been monitoring the prices for years. The latest price update on the STC web site is dated few months back (Oct 2010)

As from tomorrow, take care while pushing on the accelerator pedal ;)

Some of you might be surprised since there was no blog post dedicated to the monthly price update of petroleum products, as it has been the case since 2 years now. From the information I could gather, it seems that the next price update will be in January 2011, i.e. on a 3months basis. The last price update in October 2010 gave a rise to the price of “essence” (Rs44.70/L) while the price of diesel remained unchanged (Rs35.50/L). The media started to talk about this subject during the week but I was surprised to see that there was no follow up, no additional information was published.

Here’s the graph that I have been feeding with values for the last 2 years :

Anyways, I will miss writing this article, every beginning of each month as it has been the case for the last 2years but you can trust yashvinblogs.com, you will be updated with the prices at the right time ;)

As you have noticed, the price of diesel has been unchanged exceptionally. Else, “Essence” has gone up again by Rs2.05, following the yoyo theory, lol.

Since early this morning, Radio Plus has been announcing that the head of the State Trading Corporation (Mr Somarooa) will be no more participating in the montly price update of Petroleum products. This task will be now be supervised by the Acting deputy director of the Central Statistics Office and other members of the STC. The contract of Mr Somarooa ends today and will henceforth be renewed on a monthly basis.

Another good news is that the contract with the supplier Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) will end next month. This 3 year contract is finally coming to an end!

Mauritius is already looking for other potential suppliers and hopefully, we will be having more competitive and lower prices as compared to the last months .

Yes, it followed the “yoyo” trend, i.e. going up and down every month…

The price of petroleum products for the month of May 2010 are

L’essence :Rs 46.65/L -> Rs 43.15/L (-Rs3.50/L)

Diesel : Rs 34.40/L – Rs 36.95/L  (+Rs2.55/L)

The monthly review of prices has been carried out much later than usual because of the general elections held on the 5th May 2010.

I thought that both prices will remain unchanged this month :(

L’essence : Rs 43.40/L ->Rs 46.65/L

Diesel : Rs 34.40/L – Unchanged
