Sunday afternoon while I was at Pereybere, I took the great picture above. Coin de Mire appears amazingly near to the shore. The next day, I set this picture as my desktop wallpaper at work.

As usual, one of my colleagues, Terry, tried to pull my leg by asking me if I was waiting for all the cars to disappear from the beach. And 5minutes later, I called him to my desk to show him a surprise. Other colleagues near me came along too.

Guess what?
The vehicles finally drove away, thanks to some basic photoshop’ing

Beaucoup de personnes m’ont demandé ceci aujourd’hui :

“Hey Yashvin, ekrire ene l’article lo journée de la femme!”

Franchement vous dire, je ne savais pas quoi mettre comme contenu.

Mais en parcourant les journaux, j’ai eu la désagréable surprise de voir une caricature et une photo, précisément axées sur La journée de la Femme. Surpris car les deux montrent La Femme, victime de brutalité.

Et de plus, la caricature se trouve en première page dans la section : “Humeur de [...]“!

Vous croyez que ça va faire rire les femmes? Demandez à votre maman / soeur / épouse / copine!

Je me demande bien si c’est la première chose qui passe dans la tête de ces journalistes quand on parle de ce jour spéciale aux yeux des femmes.

Vous savez déjà  de quel journal je parle, nul besoin de le préciser! Par contre, Le Matinal a dédié la deuxième page aux femmes, et je la trouve pas mal

While the thermometer’s reading is heading towards the negative end in some countries, countries like Mauritius are going through a terribly hot weather.  People are complaining everywhere, either because of the cold (and much snow) or because of the burning sun!

If only we could exchange some rays of sunlight for a few hours of snow, wouldn’t that be nice?

Hey oui, vous l’avez peut être vu ce pub à la télé pendant ces derniers jours…

Un jour, deux, trois… maintenant ça devient un peu ennuyant…

Sur chaque tranche de pub (plutot genre trailer), il y a quelques personnes qui disent:

“On ne peut l’arrêter”.

Si je me rappelle bien, c’est le troisième jour que je vois sa, et tous les jours, le ‘pub’ est différent, c’est à dire, différentes personnes.

Bien, on va attendre patiemment… pour voir quand ça va s’arrêter!

Evitez tout contacte avec des personnes infectées ou avec des touristes.

C’est la seul façon pour eviter d’etre infecté par le virus H1N1. Les campagnes de prévention et d’information sont plus fréquentes ces jours ci surtout avec une soudaine augmentation du nombre des cas confirmées à Maurice.

Quelques jours de cela, nous étions “clean”, mais hier (Samedi 07/08/09), les autorités Mauriciennes avait récence 16 cas dont 8 touristes réunionnais en vacances dans l’ile. On compte déjà  un premier mort suite aux complications indirectement lies à cette grippe. Il y a une grande probabilité que cette dernière (une vendeuse dans un magasin)  a peut être été en contacte avec quelqu’un transporte ce virus.

Pour rappel, le virus n’est pas mortel.

Everything started with an announcement by the government about a Rs10,000 grant to each family for the purchase of a solar water heater in the process of making the  “Ile Maurice Durable”.

At that time, the solar water heater was probably only some pieces of metal sheets. But at home, we wanted to give it a better life, for the coming 10-20 years…

The application

In mid December 2008, we went to the branch of Skyrays Solar Water in Triolet to inquire how we could help to make a Green Mauritius. We finally opted to take a 220L solar water heater which was at around 23k including the 10k of the govt. Loads of paper work was done!

After nearly 4months, we got the approval letter from the Development Bank Of Mauritius, hourray!

By this time, the metal sheets were perhaps already molded into a nice solar water heater, which took nearly 2 months to reach our doorstep.

yayyy, it’s coming home!

A few days ago, we got the confirmation that the delivery will be made today.

At around noon, I headed home since the guys were already there for the installation.

wow, after a few minutes on the roof, I felt like being roasted under the burning sun!

Fortunately they took only about 1 hour to complete the setting up, after which I returned back to Champs De Mars.

Goshhhhhhhhh, we will have to wait a few more days before getting hot water since the piping still needs to be done.

Our previous heater systems…

As you can see in the pictures above, we already had a solar water heater, which stopped working around 1999. The most amazing thing is that the solar water heater was blown away during the Hollanda (1994) cyclone!

An electric water heater replaced the old solar one for some years.

After some short circuit problems, a gas water heater took its place for a 1-2 years.

This gas water heater had undergone a minor explosion a few months ago, which left us with cold water!

Finally The new solar water heater is here!

I forgot to mention, this new solar water heater has even electrical connections built in!!! How it works? I forgot lol!

Initially targeted to be valid until December 2009, the fund allocated to the solar water grant scheme was exhausted a few days ago.

So, if you missed this free gift of Rs10,000, you will have to wait for the next offer!

Hi everyone…

A short brief for those not in Mauritius :
Letchis are being sold everywhere on the island, practically in every corner of Mauritius and everywhere along motorways.

The harvest has been so good for the current year that the price of letchis have (?) dropped down to Rs0.50 each, but however, I haven’t personally found good quality letchis at that price.

For some days, I am quite fed up eating loads of letchis (gagne kdos ):

But if someone asks me tomorrow : “enkor letchis?”
I wil reply “avoyer!”
