Hello everyone!

  1. Tomorrow has a special date : 11.11.11 -> 11th November 2011
  2. Different web sites including the famous LifeHacker (and even Forbes) are talking about it, the “No Email Day“, on which people are highly encouraged to forget using email for a day. Instead, communicate directly to the persons if possible. btw, email turned 40 years this year!

As for me, one thing for sure, I will definitely be away from mails tomorrow because together with my DCDMC project team, we will be heading towards Ile Aux Cerfs! YAY!

Will you be able to live without your mail box tomorrow?

Let’s see who can take up this challenge? I am, definitely!

Guys (and girls) at DCDM Consulting, thanks for all those years, especially to those whom I have been closely working with during the past years. Enriching experience, wonderful people and the great camaraderie will be among those ever lasting memories.

I feel that the whole series of articles related to my days at DCDMC will be much useful and bring back some nostalgy as it gonna appear on my “Time Machine” for the rest of the years.

Finally, to put a dramatic touch to this post, here goes a wonderful performance :

Officially, this day has no-name yet but I decided to call it “DCDMC at Mont Choisy”. or the “A day by the seaside” as you wish. Anyways, Shakespeare said “what’s in a name” but what he did not know is that all I needed was a blog title.

Not much information was leaked about this special day. Tshirts were distributed one day before the event (i.e. Thursday) and planning for transport was mailed to everyone at the same time.

We only had to be at Mont Choisy at 9am and as you can guess, there were late-comers, including myself, since I travelled by bus, again.

Once out of the bus, I walked along the seaside to look for the event’s spot. I came across a film crew who even wanted to stop me from passing. They had no right, so I just walked right in the middle of their frame. That’s typical of me. Just then, I spotted the tents at the end of the beach, and I did some jogging till there.

Once most reached the beach of Mont Choisy, the company event started with a warm welcome from Hassen Rojoa, our host while breakfast was served. A few games were scheduled to start just after. Among them : Sac A patate (Ou “sag gouni” as said in creole), Running with SwinFins (“La patte canard”), Throwing balloons (filled of water) and a few other games.

And of course, the Kayak race, which the red team lost, as in most of the other games. But the fun and the team spirit was there, especially in the balloons game where the 2 teams had to throw a water-filled balloon at the other team and the winning team is the one who catches the most without exploding them.

Lunch was served at 1330hrs and as you can guess, everyone was hungry at this time. Au menu, we had BBQ (Grilled chicken, lamb, fish and lobster).

The organisation

Hassen Rojoa was great, as usual. I don’t think that anyone can complain about our host. He knows how to make people laugh. Entertainment is what he does best. The games and the mini concert were cool too.

However, I say it loud and clear (and again), don’t ever hire that amateur so-called magician. I am not among those who silently endure all kind of tortures, including silly magic shows. So, people who were out there, you should thank me for making that guy disappear from the scene, with my own magical words.

My impressions

I had a nice time. Despite being out of office for this day, we were still among colleagues for the whole day. Nice time for some team building and getting to know each and every person of the company.

There are things which can always be improved but nothing is perfect in life. Three and a half years ago, the company organised a similar event at Flic en Flac. You might be interested to read about it here.

Oh gosh, I nearly forgot the beer. At around 13hrs, we had an “Out of Stock” warning. Fortunately, more beers were ordered to satisfy all those thirsty people who came to have a nice time among colleagues.

And we drank till the end of the day, on the beach and in the sea too :-)

A few weeks ago, we received our invitation cards. Sincerely, I have never seen such a nicely and lovely personalised card. Hats off to one of the colleagues who designed and made them.

The attire was clearly shown on the card itself. So, we needed to be smartly dressed. And the girls’ invitation card was designed as a dress :

On the long awaited day (yesterday), we all left office earlier than usual and we all reached the recently renovated “Chateau de Labourdonnais”, Mapou. The settings there was superb. Cool atmosphere prevailing while the waiters were busy putting the final touch and colleagues enjoying the photo sessions.

For this special day, I took an important decision : It was either “Getting drunk and Partying” or “Shooting superb pictures in this unique place”. So, the Nikon D5000 was left home, for the first time ever.

Instead of hanging around with the DSLR, I managed with 2 point and shoot cameras. Yes, 2 of them lol. The office camera and the one I gifted to Dhaneesha [Blog post might come later :-) ]

After the award ceremony, we had dinner, followed by dessert and the ongoing drinks ;)
The food was good, catering service very friendly and attentive ; always there when you need them. The Master of Ceremony knew his job, keeping everyone lively, cracking jokes. Music was nice too, had a great time partying till 01:00 am. It was fun! Had a wonderful time celebrating the end of year, together with colleagues.

Everyone turned into party animals just after the dinner (small video). Ties were loosen, suits removed…

The party over, everyone got back into the vans and taxis. Office now closed till the 4th January 2011.

As usual, we had a fun day for the team building event held at Domaines des 7 Vallées, located just along the side of Mare Aux Vacoas reservoir.

The mission

Build a “cabane” (hut) with  materials collected through our journey in the domaine. The materials were hidden here and there and to obtain some of them, we had to go through some activities (sometimes tough)

The strategy of Lekip Malin

We formed groups of 8-10 people upon our arrival.
In my team, the “Lekip Malin” : Aum, Bernard, Varsha, Pravesh, Kamal, Cedric, Bhanu, Aparna, Dhaneesha and myself. We agreed to split the team so that we could carry out different activities at the same time and we would collect the items on our way back to the starting point.

Once all the materials were gathered, all the teams started to build their huts, keeping in mind that the huts need to be original and (quite) strong among others.

Tribute to my shoes

Before going any further, *1 minute silence please*.

I walked bare foot (one side) for about one hour before the other side let me down too.

Rest in Peace, I will always remember the times we spent, during those numerous outings in the nature, mountains and also during university life. We have been so close together…

And you know what?

We were awarded the first place with our hut LOL!

Compared to others, ours was quite solid and was still standing firm when we left the domaine about 3 hours later. Loads of the huts made by my colleagues fell down meanwhile :-)

And we were original, specially with the shoe on the top, the “la corde linze” and our horn at our door ;)

The rewards

Lekip Malin won the first price : 30mins on a dual quad bike. The second price was also the same as first one while the third team won a bottle of rhum (rum aranzer). But finally, most of the staff present there had the opportunity to ride the quad for 30minutes.

DCDM Consulting held its company event at Club Med, Pointe aux Cannoniers on the 17th July 2009 (a few hrs ago). I think that all of us were more than satisfied, so much loads of fun, food, drinks!

0800hrs : Got up.

0930hrs : Reached Club Med

Lunch Time : Buffet (ventre defoncer!)

1600hrs : Colleagues start to leave the hotel

1645hrs : Changed clothes and left with Dhan for a drive :-)

1645-2230hrs : BEEP ( *censored* ) !

On Going : Kayak, Swimming (when I fell from the Kayak), Beach Volley, Golf, Tennis, Ping Pong, Photo shooting and a few drinks :P

2230hrs : Pick up my sis from the end of year party of  The University of Mauritius.

2300hrs : Reached home.

0130am : [sleeping starts now]

Horses
Its hard to believe but I have been at Champs De Mars to watch horse races less than 5 times in my life! lol

Today, I took my camera and really enjoyed taking pics there.
The reasons are :

  • The green glass makes very beautiful shots!!!
  • Taking pics of people waiting for the horses to ride across them gives a very natural look.

After a short photo session, I went to buy some ‘mine bouille and boullettes’ for my lunch.

btw, did I tell you that I was in Office today from 10hrs till nearly 1830hrs?

The story above only took place during my lunch time…

I have nearly ROFL this evening…

Being in holidays *Youpiiiii* after Friday’s end of year party, I borrowed a DVD of Mr Bean series from Deepa (Thnks!)…

lol, I still remember the old days where MBC (?) broadcasted Mr Bean on regular intervals… Despite having watched all of them, either on MBC or on VCD, its fun to watch them over and over again…

DCDM Consulting held its annual End Of Year Party at The Grand Mauritian Resorts and Spa, Balaclava, under the Disco Theme.

About 120 of the staff were present for this event, and loads of us were dressed according to this theme, despite the difficulty in finding such clothes in the market. All of our costumes were original, shining through the lights. At first, it was quite funny since everyone was different, unique…

Without forgetting that I have grown my beard specially for this event, and from the promising feedback, I have decided to stick to this look for some time…

We were welcomed at the hotel at around 7pm with a cocktail, followed by gift sharing…

There was loads of photo sessions with our clothes, wigs and other accessories(?) :P

Finally at around 10pm, everyone was on the dance floor till 1pm.

The party ended at around 1-130am, everyone with a big smile on their faces since we have not only enjoyed ourselves to the max, but the party was a complete success, as for each and every event organised by DCDM Consulting…
