Nomad, the “high reliable speed” internet service provider of Mauritius is back in the headlines of yashvinblogs.com!

A friend, Nayar got a “Mise en demeure” legal notice today by post. (Sorry for the very bad quality of the image)

The letter has been issued by Sogerec, a company which provides legal services for getting money back.
(More info and better translation on their web site, lol)

Nomad is claiming the following :

IMPAYE : RS 7071.74
CLAUSE PENALE : RS 848.61
TOTALE : RS 7920.35
COUT DU MODEM : RS 10,000

That makes a total of Rs7920.35 if the modem is returned and Rs10,000 additional if the modem is not returned.

But the best part in this story is that the rabbit modem has been returned long ago in September 2009
(See proof below – bad quality again).

They even included the following at the end of their letter :

“SI TOUTEFOIS VOUS AVEZ DEJA EFFECTUE CE REGLEMENT, NOUS COMPTONS SURE VOTRE COMPREHENSION ET NOUS VOUS REMERCIONS DE NE PAS TENIR COMPTE DE LA PRESENTE.”

What’s their problem?

Can’t they trace that out instead of sending those letters to people living peacefully now?

Nomad, my worst internet experience

And all ex-Nomad users know that the company does not accept the modem till you haven’t settled all the unpaid amount. It is a fact, most (if not all) of the Nomad users had a very very bad experience while trying to use that wimax powered internet connectivity. I have blogged loads of articles about Nomad. The Director of that time even asked me for a meeting to talk about my bad experience since it was making a lot of buzz on the Mauritian websphere. I was even called for a second meeting with the Person in Charge of the Comms of the company but this interview was never held.

Months ago, I switched to MyT and I can confirm : “Nomad s*cks!”

Anyone got the same letter as above? or more experiences to share? Feel free!

Nomad is back as headlines after a looooonnngggg period!

One of my regular reader (Mike) sent me a message today while another reader h(thats his name) has added a comment on my blog, sharing the latest updated news from the Nomad.

For those who don’t know:

Nomad is a internet service provider whose moto is, I quote :
“High speed wireless internet for home and office“.

According to a daily newspaper, Nomad has unfortunately come to such a situation where the management had to suspend 20 employees because of “unfair competition“.

I don’t really know to which extent this is true, but as an ex-nomad user *who had to stick to the phone for more than 2 years for customer support*, I can say loud and clear that they are simply unprofessionals!

The number of unsatisfied customers has only been increasing since its launch.

10 main reasons why customers hated nomad are :

1. SLOW speed *cough* *cough*,
2. Unreliable connection,
3. Frequent lost of connectivity.
4. A customer care service which is not always available
5. A customer care service which takes days and weeks to revert back to you.
6. 90% of solutions from Customer care :
   “Teigne ou modem, allime li apres 10mins”
7. Waiting for hours on the phone, and YOU pay the bill, not even a toll free service!
8. Their billing system which keeps billing you wrong figures!
9. Their foolish marketing strategy which only aims at getting new customers.
10. One of their technicians being rude to me!

Unexpected call !

In the evening today, i got a call from Nomad from Mr A.V.First of all he presented himself as the person in charge of communications and said that he wanted to discuss about the articles on my blog related to Nomad…

He politely stated that I had the rights to express my views on Nomad since we live in a democracy but however Nomad has improved a lot, especially since the advert “New Improved Nomad”.

Together with the marketing manager, he wanted to meet me so that they can discuss about the issues related to Nomad.

A year ago(April 2007), I had another meeting with the Nomad director of that time.

He was very friendly and we discussed about the issues i reported. The outcome was positive as he had well exposed the problems his company faced. Lets hope that this time, the result of this meeting will be beneficial for all of the users of nomad….

I totally agreed with this meeting with Nomad since it would be a nice opportunity for them

1. To show that their product has improved a lot.
2. To move forward the factors which did not enable them to provide such a ‘better service’ earlier.
3. To show their progress in this field
4. To explain how they manage to give a ‘better service’ now
5. & perhaps to conduct a survey to see if really, they have reached the expectation of their customers and why do they STILL have unhappy users, looking for a platform to discuss.

It is important to note that my blog is such a platform which allows users to express their views, bad/good experience and unhappiness regarding to their subscription to this product.

Nomad has definitely been and is still an advantage to many users, specially students who can’t yet afford an adsl/high reliable internet connection at their place.

But the questions that we must ask ourselves:

Does paying less means that we have to encounter speed/connection problems,billing issues, among others?

As told to me by Mr A.V, it may be true that Nomad has really changed, but why do people still complain about their speed/connection problems?

Any specific questions/issues you want be to discuss with them on your behalf?

Hoping that this meeting will be able to move things a bit and clearing up issues that has been solved meanwhile, and why not study the particular cases of the subscribers?

More than 1 week already, “orange p vender partout”, but still, no response from the competitors, at least, nothing extraordinary in their business strategy from namely,

• Nomad
• Emtel
• MTML
• DCL

Except a small thing from Emtel, you can now epin ur mobile with only rs20, instead of rs25.

I tried to access Nomad‘s portal, but a big “Under Construction” Notice is there, dont know since when, lets hope its something really BIG for the few users still hanging out with their rabbit.c

As for MTML, its “Azu wireless broadband internet” is available since some weeks back but till now, there havent been any marketing done to attract potential customers, perhaps because they are not ready yet to handle many users and hence face the same problem which nomad faced with thousands(?) of ppl connected and the system breaking down day after day….really bad reputation they have here in Mauritius! lol

Internet, Mobile, everything is being controlled by Orange, offering several offers ( mobile packs etc etc ) + innovations (new portal, magic numbers, etc etc) since its launch.

Will they be able to compete with the big multinational company orange?

Sure, the mauritian blog community and myself will be here to keep you updated about the events in our cyber island ( lol, cyber! )

So, this proves that they accept that BEFORE this advert, nomad users had very

• POOR experience
• POOR service
• POOR coverage!!!

SO BAD MARKETING for the image of a company!!!

I will blog about slowness of myT , according to my first speed test, 73kbps Download, 29kbps Upload… its a very good start, grrr….

Anyway, it wont be for now….

So, now that my Nomad Contract is over, i will try my luck wiz myT.
No Comments from the 2 installation guys from MT, they were cool, and everything is working properly, except that i am receiving only 4 channels on the TNT, got to check my antenna tomorrow.

hello to all….

i should first of all be grateful that nomad is working and allowing me to post this in my blog…thnks

so, “mo commence plaigne imper”

this started 2 days back, with a very low speed since early the morning.
i called them to complain as usual and during the “troubleshooting”, at one time, when the modem was reset from there, it became “capoute”/Out of order…
some technical problem, no display on screen and no connection

please note that as usual, at that time, the BTS antenna was again out of order and the persons concerned are always there as usual to put it to work again.

I had to go to a nomad stand to get it exchanged and supposingly enjoy a good connection, as says the moto;

“High Speed Reliable Internet Access”

no no no…
since then, my connection seems ko.
am getting surf speeds of about 50-70kbps for a 128 kbps modem.

today, since the morning, have been calling them several times and no one is able to give me a reason why i am getting this speed.
i called them at 1730 and “customer care agent la ine passe ene movais 10mins”

ah, seems that nomad is kouma dire “la boutik sinois”…

there is no one in charge there at times, just like today, when i asked to talk to one of the supervisors or even a technician.

after, some “maltraiter and kozer kouyon”, a supervisor was “finally available” and according to her,

bane fluctuations lo rezo dan le nord p cause sa problem la.

i agree 4 fluctuation, but not at the rate of 50%, sometimes giving 50kbps!

It seems that as usual and always, technicians are working on it right now and everything will be ok at 19hrs. i promised to her to call her back at 19hrs….LOL….

so, thats about the everyday life of nomad users….

ah, also, i forgot to mention that according to nomad,

Customers do not have the right to use a software called
“Navini Diagnostic” which is freely available from Navini’s Site.

Instead, I encourage, every nomad user to download it(if ur nomad works) and use it koz

• It allows u to know from which antenna u r receiving connection
• Distance from that antenna
• Reset your modem from your computer itself
• Get technical details about your modem
• Get Graphs of Speed and Quality

Get it Now and tell Customer Care that it is available and you are using it.

many of the existing and ex-nomad users received a sms some days before:

(cool, the first time am using a screenshot program from my mob directly,see pics below)

well, many among us wanted to know wat it was about and some of us(YOU) already had an idea n we were right lol

so, i took a bus, went to stand of nomad @ happy world and asked about that offer, and voucher.

the guy there explained the concept to me about getting rs200 for each nomad customer u bring.
then i asked him about the voucher i was supposed to get ^o)
he told me he hadnt any left but i asked it wat it looked like…
i told him even a used one will do (infact, i wanted to take a pic for all of u)

he looked into the files and managed to get one blank….
he gave it to me, but i only layed it down on the stand table to take a picture and i handled it back to him saying

“mo pas pu bisin, garde li”
