Exactly 5 years back, I posted my first welcoming blog post.

Today, I can indeed say that it was really worth to step into blogging. My baby has grown into one of the most famous blogs of the island, receiving some hundreds of visits daily. It has been an awesome and exciting journey, still followed by so many people ever since the Day 1.

To celebrate this special moment, I ordered a black forest birthday cake and shared it among colleagues and my family members.

Once again, I heartily thank all of you for the wonderful support and participation during the past years. This said, I will study each and every suggestions/criticism received during the past days in order to enhance your experience here.

As usual, keep tuned in here, you aren’t going to miss anything.

Hello everyone!

A new background, new logo (some kind of doodle) and as usual, the lively atmosphere you have known ever since your first click here.

We are only 3 days away from the 5th anniversary of the blog. This year, I will do something a bit special. Nothing like a great party with the hundreds of daily visitors. We are not there yet but perhaps I might reconsider in 5years time?

Special thanks to my team members for their contributions to the image.

But for now, I would like to hear anything from you that can contribute to making this blog more lively and interactive. I do not promise anything but we can perhaps think together to make it happen.

The bloggers’ event finally took place as planned… The day was great, slippy, muddy, fun and tiresome!
14 persons replied positively to the bloggers’ event invitation, of which 8 are bloggers.

All of us met at Shoprite where a van picked us and drove to Petrin, at the start of the hiking path. Shortly after our arrival, we had to take out our raining coats and umbrellas, for some.  The views were simply gorgeous…

Halfway, we stopped at Machabée view point to have lunch while admiring the vast area in front of us… The same area which was the remaining part of the hiking journey.

Small funny incident :
A sweating guy coming from the other direction, asked Julien if this was the way towards “7 Cascades” lol.

We took roughly 4.5 hours to walk from Petrin to the other side, Black River Visitor’s Center.

At the end of the day, another blogger joined us. Indeed, Reena DKL accompanied by her cute little daughter and her husband, Michel were waiting for us in the park. After a little chat, she made the traditional bloggers’ event painting which you can see.

Together with other Mauritian bloggers, I am trying to organize a bloggers’ event once again, like we did for this one at Mac Do and here’s the one at Flic en Flac.

It is so easy to create a blog, a few clicks and you are done. Then comes the first article with the traditional “welcoming” post… The next articles are not so difficult to write, in fact, they will mainly deal about the topics which have actually encourage you to create a blog to share your point of view.

Let’s write something, but what?

After a few posts, it becomes more difficult to get a topic to talk about. The 3-5 posts per week becomes 1 post per week and it finally drops to 1 post per month.

Wait, Dhaneesha blogs once every 2 months, isn’t it sweet heart? Kidding, this month has been an exception And my sister stopped writing since long, lol. There are so many other bloggers who follow the same trend, you say what blogger friends ?

Enter twitter…

If I had to blame something for the lack of motivation to push bloggers to write, I would choose Twitter

Why? The article initially written for a blog is now compressed to the tweet format, with only 140 characters. So, instead of writing a blog post with images etc, you just need to write a short sentence, that’s it.

The definition says it all : “Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets.” [wikipedia]

And here goes the one for microblogging : “Microblogging is a form of blogging. A microblog differs from a traditional blog in that its content is typically much smaller, in both actual size and aggregate file size. A microblog entry could consist of nothing but a short sentence fragment, or an image or embedded video.” [wikipedia]

What I usually do…

I am blogging regularly since nearly 3.5 years now. I must admit it, finding topics is difficult. Finding topics which will generate comments is even more difficult! You can get inspired to blog anything, you just have to listen and observe the world around you… And a bit of imagination and creativity…

I usually note down any ideas that come across my head, on my mobile phone or on the blog itself. Later when I am free, I usually develop that idea into a blog post, with text and some images. But most of the times, I write articles on the fly. Right now, I have 2 articles in my blog section(excluding this article), ready to be posted

I even wrote an article one month ago on “Des motocyclistes inconscient du danger” and a few days ago, I saw that there is an awareness campaign going on the same subject lol! Another forthcoming blog post (probably on saturday) will talk about “understanding photography lenses, for beginners”. And of course, a blog post on my birthday, on the 22nd March 2010.

Of course, lack of ideas and time are the other reasons which determine the frequency of publishing blog posts. I almost forgot another thing… Privacy, that may be another reason why some people might stop or reduce their blog posts. One alternative to keep your blog alive would be to enable guest blogging, and above all, find those guest bloggers!

I hope that this article was not that boring!

After publishing my article about some false news published on a local journal,there has been a lot of buzz in the Mauritian blogosphere. While some people supported my article, others were putting all the blame on the communication cell of the Prime Minister.  Don’t worry, I certainly won’t be writing anything more on that topic, but instead, I want to clear some things.
What follows is from my personal experience of blogging and other bloggers may or may not agree.

First of all, thanks to everyone who read this blog, among some of them are regular here since nearly 3 years.

I said it loads of times, blogging allows me to share my point of view as well as hear what YOU want to say. Of course, I may not be right all the time, no one can be perfect.

This said, it does not mean that I write nonsense. You may not agree with what I say, but this does not mean that the article is wrong.

Very recently, a journalist from Scope Magazine wrote a nice article about “Journalisme Citoyen”, clearly summarizing a few points about blogging.

Despite all the efforts done through some bloggers and myself, there are still some misconceptions about being a blogger :

Professionalism

First of all, I am not a journalist, I do not work for anyone (at least, not for writing articles).

Journalists have an obligation to abide by their code of conduct and usually, need to write in the perspective of their news agency. Bloggers don’t have any code of conduct yet.

However, I find it really disgraceful that some bloggers swear in their blogs. It is their choice and certainly have their targeted audience. But personally, I prefer not to read the articles written in this way. I believe that your blog should reflect your personality.

For your professional career, blogging can really bring you to higher heights.

However your future boss may read your words, and that should be a reason for hm not to hire you.

Responsibility

I am aware that I am fully responsible for articles published in this blog.

All comments submitted here go through a moderation process in which I may remove any information I find inappropriate/irrelevant/abusive. In such comments, I usually include a small note.

However, I cannot prevent people from voicing out their concerns which may differ from mine or yours.

Milking my blog?

I do not make even 1 cent from my blog, never!

My passion for blogging will definitely not make me go commercial, not yet (lol)!

Originality

None of my articles are copied from the net! Nor I copy ideas from the international bloggers. I have my own blogging style which differs me from others.

Topics on which I blog vary and ranges from my personal life, local news, very little tech articles and any other tips/stuff that I want to share.

Audience

You may have surely noticed : I mainly target the Mauritian Audience, nothing more. Hence, you probably won’t see any comments from international bloggers nor non-Mauritians.

The reward?

You know what?

A few days ago, I was chatting with a NRM (Non Resident Mauritian lol) and I can proudly say that loads of people really like reading my blog.  It is so encouraging when someone says such encouraging words for the wonderful work accomplished.

Through this years, I have made quite some reputation as a blogger. and it often happens that people recognize me on the streets. While some do not hesitate to share a few words, other prefer to send me a message through msn or facebook lol!

With these words, I end this article here. All I want to say is that I am a blogger, sharing my views and anyone can have their own. If you are on this blog, it is your choice and probably you won’t regret being here.
